Preferential Rules of Origin
Preferential Rules of Origin (PROO) provide opportunities for importers and exporters to avail themselves of lower duty rates or zero tariffs and improved market access, provided that applicable requirements are met. Eligibility for preferential duty treatment may need to be demonstrated generally up to five years after the date of importation/export if subject to post entry audits and origin verifications by Customs and other Border Management authorities.
Why this matters to your business

- Can help reduce costs and improve competitiveness
- Help ensure positive relationships with international suppliers and customers.
Business challenges you may face without this knowledge
- There are rules that must be met to secure preferential tariff treatment
- Incur higher costs for imported/exported goods
